Description
In this Musical Theatre Dance Theory class, students will learn dance hacks and gain a strong foundation in the essential elements of musical theatre choreography, with a particular focus on understanding formations and mastering basic jazz combos. The class will explore the importance of spatial awareness, timing, and teamwork as students learn how to execute and transition between different stage formations that are common in musical theatre productions. By breaking down classic jazz combinations and learning how they fit into the larger picture of a musical number, students will develop the technical skills needed to perform with precision and confidence in group settings. This is a great class for anyone seeking to become more skilled with their dancing, in order to assist them in learning choreography more quickly and effectively. Throughout the course, students will work on building their jazz technique, including jazz walks, pirouettes, and body isolations, while also learning how to move cohesively as a group. Emphasis will be placed on musicality, synchronization, and the ability to adapt quickly to changing formations within choreography. By the end of the class, students will have a deeper understanding of how dance is integrated into musical theatre productions, while developing stronger coordination and performance skills that will elevate their overall stage presence. Whether performing on a large stage or in a small ensemble, students will be prepared to take on the challenges of musical theatre dance with confidence and flair.
