Description

Our Winter Master Class Series is a lecture/workshop series of classes, that will take a deeper look at specific content areas related to various aspects of theater.  In the five-part series, attendees will learn upper level acting and audition techniques, to enhance their ability to effectively showcase their skills through the audition process, as well as to creatively tell stories on the stage.  Accessible to a wide variety of ages and skill levels, these workshops will enrich the abilities of all performers. Those who register for the Master Class Series also have the option of auditioning for the main stage production of The SpongeBob Musical. 

This Master Class Series, and The SpongeBob Musical, are offered for youth ages 8-18. Those wishing to audition for The SpongeBob Musical, must register for and attend the Master Classes. Master Classes are also offered for those not wishing to audition for the musical.  Please reach out with any questions!

**Advanced Acting Audition Prep - with Danniey Wright and Hayley Lionheart**

Unlock your potential with our intensive master class designed for students facing audition anxiety or seeking to land coveted roles. This comprehensive program guides participants through a targeted checklist for successful auditions. Students will engage in practical workshops, receive valuable feedback during mock auditions, and refine their skills in a supportive environment.

Additionally, each participant has the opportunity for one, 30 minute complimentary one-on-one virtual coaching session (Time slots available throughout the winter show run). This personalized coaching can be used to work on material for upcoming auditions, or to practice essential techniques with expert guidance—at no extra cost to parents. Elevate your audition game and step confidently into the spotlight!


**Successful Song Choice & Singing Auditions - with Sam Sierra-Feldman**

Join us for this transformative master class designed to enhance your musical audition skills in conjunction with Advanced Audition Prep. Students will engage in dynamic exercises that demonstrate the critical importance of selecting an audition song that aligns with their vocal range and unique performance strengths.

Participants will also gain invaluable experience in collaborating with a live accompanist, learning how to effectively communicate their needs and foster teamwork with professional musicians. Students are encouraged to prepare a brief piece for this session—details to follow. Elevate your musical audition experience and make your song choice shine!


**Physicality and Character - with Tyler Wright**

Explore the vital role of physicality in acting and elevate your performances! While delivering dialogue with emotion is essential, a static presence can diminish impact. In this class, you'll discover how to enhance your character study through dynamic movement. Engage in exercises that teach you to convey character through posture and nonverbal storytelling, transforming your ability to communicate without words. Join us to bring your characters to life and captivate your audience!


**Improv & Comedic Performance - with Cristin Phibbs (younger age group) and Adam Chen (older age group)**

Join us for an exciting exploration of improvisation and comedic performance! In the first session, students will immerse themselves in competitive improv games, gaining insight into the thrill of comedic teamwork. The second session will focus on honing comedic timing and delivery, as participants engage in playful discussions of improv rules and comedy theory. This dynamic class promises to elevate your skills while fostering creativity and collaboration. Unleash your comedic potential and discover the joy of improvisation!

"Makeup with Ms. Amber"

Amber is a Tucson native, who has been an active volunteer at CYT Tucson since 2017.  She has done hair, makeup, and wigs for numerous CYT shows, as well as live basic stage makeup tutorials.  She loves making new looks and helping actors physically embody their role and character development.  Come join Ms. Amber, as she focuses on a master class that will spark your creativity and ignite your passion to map out and create character looks all on your own!

"Exploring Sound Through Foley Arts - with Wes Halloran"

This "soundsational" class will focus on how to take everyday sounds and turn them into something magical on stage.  Students will learn to use props to create their very own sound effects.  They will work to be creative when thinking about how to produce sounds to enhance performances.  Don't miss out on this great opportunity, specifically designed for our older students.

Dani Wright

Danielle Wright is a Tucson native who got her start in theater at age 6 through Tom Thumb Players. In 2007, she received a BA from Brigham Young University's College of Theatre and Media Arts. Since then, she has continued her work in the theater and film industries, involving a variety of projects from large-scale concerts and stadium shows to community theater productions to feature films. She currently works full time as the Director of Events and Volunteers at SARSEF, a STEM education nonprofit. She also loves to sew, cook, travel, and do puzzles.

Hayley Lionheart

Hayley Lionheart earned her MFA in writing for the Stage and Screen at Florida State University’s prestigious College of Motion Picture Arts. During her time at FSU, she spent a semester at Theatre Academy London where she studied under BBC producer Katherine Bailey and Oscar Winning Screenwriter Rebecca Lenkiewicz. After graduation she worked on an adaptation for New York Times Best Selling Author Juliana Baggot, while simultaneously fostering her love of teaching. Working under Louisiana State University’s Continuing Education program, Hayley ran Graphic Design, Filmmaking and Photography summer camps for students ages 14-18. She currently co-teaches Humanities, runs a middle school film club, and manages Library Programing at Tucson Hebrew Academy.

Sam Sierra-Feldman

Sam is a graduate of the University of Arizona. She teaches 5th Grade at Casas Christian School and frequently works as a director and instructor for Christian Youth Theater. Most recently, she has worked on CYT’s productions of Disney’s “Alice in Wonderland Jr,” “High School Musical,” “Annie,” “The Wizard of Oz,” Disney’s “My Son Pinocchio Jr,” and Disney’s “Descendants: The Musical!” as well as The Inner Voice Studio’s productions of “Ride the Cyclone,” “The Theory of Relativity,” and “Alice by Heart.” Sam enjoys singing in her church choir and continues to work on her published series of children's books, "Sam the Ant," which she first conceptualized with her father when she was four years old.

Tyler Wright

Tyler Wright studied musical theater at Brigham Young University for three years before pursuing and graduating with a degree in computer science. Since moving back to Tucson, he finds opportunities to perform around Tucson wherever he can. Tyler most recently received MAC and Carmen award nominations for SAPAC's productions of Hot Mikado and [title of show]. He also produced, directed, and starred in Gutenberg! The Musical! which received a MAC award nomination for Best Musical in 2018. He has also been in Godspell at St. Francis Theater and Roadrunner Theatre Company's Triumph of Love, and I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change! Other credits include Arizona Onstage Productions’ Les Miserables, The Story of My Life, and The World Goes Round. Tyler regularly performs with many other Tucson performing groups including The Gaslight Theatre, Khris Dodge Entertainment, Lonely Street Productions, and Mr. Bing's Supper Club.
